MINGORA: Commissioner Malakand Division Shaukat Ali Yousafzai said that on the instructions of Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mahmood Khan, measures were taken on a priority basis for the rescue of tourists stranded in Swat and Kamrat during the flood situation while helicopter has provided for rescue operations to evacuate victims.
On the other hand, 1750 tourists were transferred from Kalam to Saidu Sharif and helicopter rescue service for others is going on which will be completed in two days. Commissioner Malakand Division Shaukat yousafzai specially mentioned the role of Pakistan Army for safely rescuing 150 people trapped in Ghashkor Tehsil Khwaza Khela .
Shaukat yousafzai says that food and other items have been delivered through helicopters to the upper areas of Swat district which have been cut off by land. Eight camps have also been set up to ensure uninterrupted delivery of food and other basic items to different areas. He said that 45 medical camps have also been established to provide public health facilities to patients at different places, in which 13300 patients have been cared for so far.
Commissioner Malakand Division Shaukat Ali Yousafzai says that so far 6735 non-food packages and 8716 food packages have been delivered to the victims in different areas in Malakand Division. He said that for the restoration of roads different team with heavy machinery has open 187 roads for transportation. He further added that the task has been given to clear the road from Bahrain to Kalam with the help of Pakistan Army within five days on emergency basis.
He added the volume of the flood was almost double that of 2010, but because of the good work done in Swat in the recent past, the floods did not cause the damage to the local population that has been seen in the past, he said that 66 people were killed and 47 people were injured in the floods and other incidents in Malakand division, 2336 residential houses were completely destroyed and 3197 houses were partially damaged, 438 schools and 35 health centers were affected, 517 roads, 141 bridges were damaged by floods. Visible, 183 irrigation channels were affected, 711 livestock were killed, 13 sports facilities and 50 community power houses were affected and 52841 private properties were similarly damaged.
Shaukat Ali Yousafzai says that in Malakand division, Swat and Dir Upper have been badly affected, while Chitral Upper and Lower, Dir Lower and Shangla have also suffered due to the flood situation. He says that on the instructions of the Chief Minister, the relief amount for the victims of natural calamity has been increased from 3 lakh to 8 lakh and for the injured from 50 thousand to 160 thousand and in this regard, payments have been made to the affected families.
They say that the detailed assessment is ongoing while 30 to 35 billion damage has been estimated.
Commissioner Malakand Division expressed special thanks to Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pak Army, District Administration, Police, Rescue 1122, TMAs, Civil Defense and other relevant authorities. Special thanks to the authorities and said that this is a national emergency, bodies, all stakeholders have played their role, especially in the hour of difficulty, the people have proved to be a conscious nation.
