Case filed after Salman Khan receives death threat

NEW DELHI (Web Desk): Bollywood actor Salman Khan and his father Salim Khan on Sunday received an anonymous letter threatening to kill them, following which an FIR was registered by Mumbai Police, an official said.

According to The Indian Express, on early Sunday morning, Salim was sitting on a bench at the Bandra Bandstand, which is his routine, after a morning walk when an unidentified man handed him a letter that mentioned a threat to kill Salim and Salman, the official said.

Later, with the help of his security personnel, Salim Khan contacted the police and an FIR was registered under section 506-II (Criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Bandra police station. Further investigation is underway, the official added.

Previously, following the harrowing murder of the Indian singer and rapper Sidhu Moose Wala by a gang troupe, Salman’s security was beefed up. The 56-year-old actor has been on the radar of criminal groups for a long time now and according to Indian media, police officials had enhanced the protection unit outside his residence.

According to Pinkvilla, a sudden preventative measure was taken after gangster Lawrence Bishnoi’s name emerged as the key suspect accused in Sidhu’s murder. A senior police official told the publication that Mumbai police has enhanced the overall security of the Dabangg actor to ensure he’s safe from any harmful intentions of the Bishnoi gang, which operates from Rajasthan.

The Dabangg star has been on Lawrence’s radar after the infamous blackbuck poaching case during the shoot of his 1999 blockbuster Hum Saath Saath Hain. The Bishnoi community considers the blackbuck to be a sacred animal and Khan’s involvement in poaching had hurt the community’s sentiments.

In 2018, Lawrence went so far as to threaten Khan that he’ll kill him. Rahul alias Sunni, one of Lawrence’s close associates arrested in 2020 for murder, said that they had not only hatched a plan to kill Khan but had even visited Mumbai to conduct a recce for the murder.
