HERAT (TOLOnews): The public library in Herat has been reopened after restoration by Turkey’s TIKA office.
Additionally, Turkey’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism has donated 2,000 books in Turkish to this library.
Ahmadullah Muttaqi, head of Information and Culture in Herat, said, “TIKA, an important institution of the Republic of Turkey, has not only restored this library but also donated a thousand books.”
Thousands more books are expected to be donated by Turkey to the library in Mazar-e-Sharif.
Mohammad Noori Parmaqsiz, a representative of a Turkish cultural organization, said, “The books we gifted today include titles on religion, philosophy, literature, psychology, children’s literature, and other areas. This donation totals 2,000 books.”
Mustafa Haqqani, the director of Herat’s public library, said: “Our friendly country, Turkey, has gifted us 2,000 books. These will be highly beneficial in enriching the library’s language section, and we already have visitors in this area.”
The Herat Public Library is one of the oldest libraries in the country.
Equipping this library with new and up-to-date books is considered important for promoting a reading culture among the youth and book enthusiasts in Herat.
Mohammad Daoud Munir, a university professor, said, “The Ministry of Information and Culture and all Emirate institutions working to enhance public knowledge and promote a reading culture should update the library’s books. They should bring in contemporary books.”
According to Herat’s Department of Information and Culture, the public library in this province houses over 35,000 books. Dozens of men and women visit daily for reading and research.
