KARACHI: Czech model Tereza Hluskova involved in heroin smuggling case has got a relief from the Supreme Court when the latter has thrown out an appeal filed by the Customs Department seeking to stop the model from flying out of the country.

A three-judge Supreme Court bench headed by Justice Ijazul Ahsan heard the case on Thursday.

During hearing, Justice Ahsan asked the Customs’ lawyer did they send the sample of heroin recovered from the Czech model’s possession to laboratory for examination as per the requirement of law.

The lawyer said that the trial court which convicted Ms Hluskova declared the sample dispatching correct. He told the court that the model wanted to go back to Czech Republic on April 23. He pleaded with the court to order the authorities to put her name on the stop list.

Justice Ahsan remarked that the court would issue order if there was a case.

Giving its judgement, the apex court upheld the Lahore High Court verdict regarding the acquittal of the model and rejected the Customs appeal.

Ms Hluskova was sentenced by a trial court for smuggling drugs and was later on released by LHC.

The Customs Department filed an appeal in the Supreme Court pleading it to stop Ms Hluskova from going abroad as she had booked her flight for April 23.

It is pertinent to mention here that Ms Hluskova was sentenced to eight years and eight months in jail by a sessions court in April 2019.

The Czech model was arrested at Lahore airport for attempting to smuggle heroin from Pakistan to Abu Dhabi on January 10, 2018.

The court acquitted her last year in November and was released from prison the same month.
